BSW Building Services are specialists in the installation of solar panels throughout sussex, servicing towns and cities such as Brighton, Haywards Heath, Crawley, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead. Solar Panels, or Solar Photovoltaics, generate electricity and lower the amount that you need to purchase from your utility supplier, reducing both your household CO2 emissions as well as your energy costs. Furthermore, under the Feed-in Tariff for Low Carbon Electricity, eligible PV installations can earn an elevated tariff for every unit of electricity generated for a period of 25 years.
The Feed-in-Tariff mandates payments to owners of PV systems from their electricity supplier, with a generation tariff paid on the total generated and an export tariff, paid on the amount of unused electricity that is exported to the grid.
The current rates, which vary according to the size of the system, are shown below:
|System Size||Generation Tariff||Export Tariff|
|> 4kW – 10kW||16.8p||3.1p|
|> 10 kW – 50kW||15.2p||3.1p|
|> 50kW – 250kW||12.9p||3.1p|
|> 250kW – 5MW||8.5p||3.1p|
Ideally you will need a clear, uninterrupted and unshaded section of roof with a south or near south orientation in order to facilitate the installation of solar panels. The roof needs to be large enough to accommodate the modules and structurally sound.
Whilst the ideal orientation is due south, any orientation on the southern half of the compass can be used, right up to due east or due west, although at these extremes the annual yield will be reduced by around 15%. Above all, it is important to ensure that no part of the system is shaded, as even a small amount of shading can reduce the performance of the whole system.
In order to benefit from the Feed-in-Tariffs tariffs you will need to have your Solar PV system installed by a contractor approved under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
